Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a video conference from Gandhinagar with the District Collectors of the coastal districts of the state and reviewed the comprehensive disaster management preparedness in view of Cyclone Biparjoy. The Chief Minister reviewed details of the planning done by all the districts with a zero casualty approach against the possible effects of the cyclone in the coastal areas.

In the current situation, the cyclone is located away from Porbandar, Manorama Mohanty, Regional Director, India Meteorological Department, said at the meeting, adding the possibility of it hitting Gujarat is low.

The IMD has issued an alert of “squally wind speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph” prevailing on Saturday, and likely to increase to 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph on Sunday, 40 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on Monday and 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph on June 13 and 14.

Fishermen out in the open, see your advice to return to the coast,” the weather department stated. CM Patel directed the District Collectors in 13 coastal districts of Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Amreli, Jamnagar, Surat, Valsad, and Navsari among others to be vigilant and alert.

At the meeting, the issues of warning to fishermen of not venturing out into the sea, closure of fishing activities, and preparing teams for immediate remote control in case of fallen electricity poles, trees, banners or hoardings — affecting the roads due to the possibility of strong winds — were also reviewed.
